Barometric Pressure

Barometric pressure is measured using a temperature-compensated electronic transducer surrounded by a temperature-controlled oven. The Capricorn II microprocessor keeps track of changes in the barometric pressure and displays these changes on the front panel, warning of impending storms.

  • Digital display in millibars or inches of mercury
  • Indicates rising or falling

Accuracy: ± 0.15% of reading, or better from 29 to 31 inches of mercury at sea level for an ambient temperature between 64° and 82°F (18° to 28°C)
Range: 27 to 32 inches of mercury; 914 to 1084 millibars

Temperature

Ambient temperature is measured using a laser-trimmed integrated circuit sensor. The sensor is hermetically sealed in a military-rated package. This rugged sensor has a proven performance record that ranges from the desert to the arctic. The Capricorn II comes standard with two temperature sensors; the Capricorn II Plus includes one temperature sensor which displays alternately with relative humidity.

  • Easy-to-read digital display in °C or °F
  • Wind chill computed and displayed on command
  • Flexible sensor positioning (up to 1000 feet/305 meters from console)
Accuracy: ± 1°F (0.5°C) or better from 20° to 105°F (-7° to 41°C)
Range: -67° to 140°F; -55° to 60°C

Wind Direction and Speed

The wind speed and direction sensors use a solid state, infrared optical design to decrease wear and improve reliability. These rugged sensors, with a design incorporating years of experience and testing, are enclosed in a PVC housing surrounding stainless steel parts. These sensors operate in extreme temperature and wind conditions for years.

  • User selectable display in mph, km/h, or knots
  • >Wind direction n 16 compass points
  • Wind speed displays as low as 1 mph
  • Flexible sensor positioning (up to 1000 feet/305 meters from console)
  • Quick-disconnect cable connector for easy sensor removal

Wind Speed Accuracy: ± 5% or better from 20 to 125 mph
± 1 mph from 5 to 20 mph
Wind Speed Range: 0 to 125 mph; 200 km/h; 108 knots (higher gusts may be recorded)
Wind Speed Mechanical Threshold: 0.5 mph
Wind Direction Accuracy: 16 compass points

Relative Humidity (Capricorn II Plus only)

Relative humidity is measured with a bulk polymer, resistive sensor. This state-of-the-art technology improves the sensor's resistance to chemicals and moisture. Thoroughly tested signal conditioning and an industrially-rated housing contribute to the sensor's high accuracy and longevity.

  • Percent RH displayed continuously or alternately with temperature

Accuracy: ±5% or better from 20 to 95% RH at 25°C
± 2% or better at 50% RH at 25°C
Range: 0 to 99%, non-condensing at -40° to 130° F (-40° to 54°C)

RS232C Interface/Data Formatter (Optional)

The interface device links Capricorn II weather stations to computers and serial peripheral devices including terminals, printers, and modems. Prints reports to a terminal or printer continuously, every 15, 30, or 60 minutes (without host computer).
